| LeT militants killed in Kashmir gun battle | | | Srinagar May 09 At least five militants, believed to be of Lashkar-e-Toiba, were killed in two separate encounters with army and police in frontier district of Kupwara, during the wee hours today. The operations were launched by the army and police, late last night, leading to the killing of five militants in Trehgam area of Kupwara district, Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara Vijay Kumar told News Agency of Kashmir on Monday. Giving details he said that based on specific information that a group of militant is hiding in Sangranpati village falling under the jurisdiction of Police station Trehgam 17 Dogra and police launched a joint operation, late last night. Two militants were killed in this encounter while others managed to flee to a neighbouring village Dardhare. Police and the troops chased the fleeing militants, he said. Joined by 14 Grenadiers the troops managed to gun down the remaining three militants in the second encounter which lasted till this morning, the SSP added. Two house where the militants were hiding also suffered damage; the SSP said adding that the identification of the slain militants was being ascertained. The SSP claimed that the group had recently infiltrated to this side of border. Five rifles, three of which were in damaged condition were also recovered with some ammunition from the site of the encounter.
