| Quarry contractors held protests in Kashmir | | | Srinagar, May 09 Small time local quarry contractors of South Kashmir area of Doru in Anantnag District today blocked Jammu Srinagar National Highway to protest the leasing out of quarries by the state government to outsiders. The protesting marginal contractors who were earlier given monthly permits for extracting stones in the area have threatened to go on hunger strike if government would not scarp the leases given to big contractors. Sources told that hundreds of local quarry contractors assembled near Quazigund and blocked the busy Jammu Srinagar National Highway disrupting the traffic for about one hour. They were demanding early scraping of the leases to the big contractors and restoration of previous system of extraction on permit by local contractors.
