| MLA Akhnoor distributes cheques under HTM | | |

MLA Akhnoor Mr. Sham Lal Sharma distributed cheques worth Rs. two lakh among farmers for constructing water harvesting tanks under Horticulture Technology Mission (HTM) here today. The farmers who received the cheques were Rattan Chand s/o Dharam Chand r/o Mandrian and Kuldeep Raj s/o Parkash Chand r/o Mund of block Akhnoor.
Chief Horticulture Officer, Jammu Mr. J. L. Sharma gave a brief account of the work completed under HTM. He said that an area of 97 hectares was brought under orchards by planting 10275 fruit plants in Akhnoor block. Four water harvest tanks of 300 cubic meters capacity each have also been constructed for which financial assistance of Rs. one lakh each has been released.
MLA appreciated the efforts of the department in popularizing the horticulture activities and suggested to bring more area under plantation. He stressed to organize farmers awareness camps in villages Mara Mandriya to Chardagran in Akhnoor block on the bank of river Chenab where there is scope of lift irrigation.
Mr. Sharma emphasized the farmers to avail maximum benefits from the prevailing schemes under HTM so that their economic condition is improved.
