| For safe drinking water, purification, conservation imperative: Dilawar | | | Srinagar, May 10 The Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir today called for adopting modern technologies for hygienic cleaning of water reservoirs and tanks to arrest water born diseases. Speaking at “Demonstration Cum Seminar on Tank Cleaning” held here at Sheri Kashmir International Convention Complex, the Minister said that water is the basic requirement of life and its purification and conservation was prime need of the hour. Chief Engineer, Irrigation and PHE, Mr. G.M. Dar, Managing Director, Tanclean Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Sunil Uplap, noted social worker, Mr. Kanwal Koul and heads of various engineering departments were present on the occasion. Saying that while provision of adequate portable drinking water to people was prime responsibility of the government, the people too have a social obligation to keep waters in rivers, nallas and lakes clean. He said strict instruction have been given to the field staff of engineering departments to demolish lavatories and other encroachments on the banks of rivers. He called upon the people not to throw sewage, filth and garbage in the rivers and other water bodies which, he said, was the main cause of water contamination. He appreciated the Tanclean Private Limited and their franchise Aqua Engineers for introducing latest technologies to clean water reservoirs adding that anti bacterial treatment during the cleansing process would help in a long way to purify the water and aback water born diseases. The Minister said that scientific purification of drinking water is a challenging job adding that people should be made aware about water habits and preservation measures. On this occasion, the engineers of the company gave a power-point presentation about scientific cleaning of water tanks and reservoirs.
