During days of deluge army killed 14 militants in Valley

Srinagar, Oct 3:The militant activities in September 2014 were overshadowed by the floods which struck Kashmir, affecting a large percentage of the population, particularly in Srinagar city. According to army, the month witnessed a number of militant infiltration attempts which were foiled by the troops, resulting in the killing of 14 militants. Army also apprehended six militants in September.
A top army officer, on condition of anonymity, said that in the beginning of September when rains were lashing Kashmir, army eliminated three militants in an encounter at Hanjan Bala near Shopian on September 2. Within a week, while floods were playing in Srinagar, four more militants were eliminated at Laribal near Rajwar and Furkian on September 9.
"While the situation was returning to normal in Srinagar and other flood affected parts of the Valley, two militants were killed at Machhil on September 17 quickly followed by four more militants being eliminated at Tangdhar on September 19. Thereafter one more militant was eliminated at Lolab on September 30, bringing the total toll to 14," he said adding that all the operations were based on specific intelligence ably supported by local Police.
The army said that during the same month, a number of local militants were apprehended with the help of Special Operation Group personnel and Police. "They included an LeT operative who was arrested on September 17 at Muqam, four Hizbul Mujahideen militants who were apprehended from Sopore on 22nd and 23rd September and one more Hizb militant who was arrested on September 25 at Kirpalpura," he claimed.
