| Scarp dealers encroach half of roads in Udhampur | | Despite complaints by locals Municipality remains mute spectator | |

UDHAMPUR, Oct 3:In keeping with the Prime Minister's call for a Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Programme), everywhere in the country cleanliness drive is being launched to keep area clean but due to apathy of Udhampur municipality and district administration, the scrap dealers in city are busy in illegal encroachment and defacing city roads .
Majority of scrap dealers working near Hanuman temple at Barrian, Chopra Shop , Birma bridge and Sallian Talab enjoying the patronage of municipality and police has turned city into hell by encroaching half of the city roads.
Repeated complaints to respective authorities have proved of no use. "We have sent several written complaints to the municipality but till date no one has taken action and cleared the roads encroached by scrap dealers alleged Raj Kumar of Barrian.
Locals alleged that one of the scrap dealers' shop which is just fifty meters away from Deputy Commissioner's office near Barrian has encroached half of the highway but no one from municipality's anti-encroachment squad took any action as they are hand in glove with such dealers.
Showing their great concern and seeking action against such encroachers, several people said even as country is launching several cleanliness drives to keep their cities clean but here the apathy of municipality has turned our city into hell . |
