| With no shelter for flood affected people; ministers, bureaucrats press for rented accommodation | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Oct 3: At a time when people in summer capital and other flood hit areas of Kashmir are battling for life, administration is busy in identifying palatial bungalows for ministers and senior bureaucrats at Friends Colony near Srinagar International Airport. It has come to the fore that during last few days Estates Department has arranged near about 12 palatial houses on rent in Friends colony. Interestingly those ministers and bureaucrats having their own houses in the posh Friends colony are too provided accommodation in the colony. Importantly, Tulsi Bagh and Church Lane residential colonies where most of the ministers and bureaucrats were residing in government accommodation have been hit by devastating floods. Though hundreds of families are living as refugee in tents on roadside, the administration is busy in making arrangements for ministers and senior bureaucrats in High Altitude Airport colony. Sources said the Estates Department has so for taken 12 houses on rent in Airport colony. They said Finance Minister, Abdu Rahim Rather, Law Minister, Mir Saifullah, CAPD Minister, Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan, Higher Education Minister, Mohammad Akbar Lone and DGP K Rajendra have already shifted to Friends Colony. However, Lone has shifted to his own house at the colony while others have been provided rented accommodation. Sources said the rent for each house amounts to Rs. 60,000 per month. Sources said other senior ministers and bureaucrats too are eager to shift to Friends Colony. Sources said though majority of the ministers in the coalition government have their own houses in high lying areas, however, all of them are pressing for rented accommodation at airport colony. |
