| Members of PPM distributing cash assistance to flood victims at Azmatabad and Manyal and one of the damaged house | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Oct 3: Under the aegis of JK Disaster Management Fund, the members of Pir Panjal Mission (PPM) visited the Azmatabad and Manyal Villages in Thanamandi tehsil and provided cash relief to those families whose houses were damaged fully and were render homeless. Pertinent to mention that inhabitants of Thanamandi tehsil have suffered extensive losses to their houses, agricultural land and are in dire need of money to construct temporary shelters. The official process to calculate losses to government infrastructure and houses is still in progress in the district and it will take some more time. To provide immediate monetarily help to much needed 14 families at these villages, who have lost their property, valuables and cash in the recent landslides followed by flash floods caused by incessant rains, the members of PPM handed over cash help to these families. A team of PPM including Prof Mohd Saleem Wani, Bilal Mir, AD;Assistant Prof Asif Lone visited the villages and distributed cash among the beneficiaries in the presence Haji Karmatullah and Mohd Abdullah sarapnches of the villages. Prof. Saleem said that the initiative was taken by the mission few days back to help those who became victims in Kashmir but during the time it was established that there are many in Rajouri and Poonch districts as well who need this support. "People of the district belong to different sections of the society contributed for this social cause. Cash worth Rs 8 lacs was collected and out of which Rs 5.16 lacs were distributed among 119 flood victim families in Kashmir" said Prof Saleem. Shafqat Mir, member secretary PPM said that the rest of the money was distributed among 14 families in Thanamandi tehsil today. He added that the cash assistance in Kulgam was handed over to the beneficiaries in the presence of SSP Kulgam, Mumtaz Ahmed and DC Kulgam Nisar Ahmed Wani to 52 identified families who lost their kaccha houses. In addition to the contribution from various doctors, shopkeepers, employees, contractors, the contribution of Himalayan Mission students and scholars in cash and kind, made possible for the mission to extend the helping hand to the needy ones. Mohd Shafi Dar Social activist and Bilal Rashid, members of the mission appealed the public to participate in this mission to keep it alive, as State Government individually cannot meet out with this problem. "No doubt district administration in Rajouri doing all possible efforts with dedication but still all the people from different sections of the society and various agencies have to play their role so that victims could come out from this catastrophic conditions" said Bilal. |
