| Nurses Day observed in SMGS Hospital | | |
Jammu May 11 Nurses Day was observed here today in SMGS Hospital to recognize and respect of the moral values of the missionary profession to help the ailing mankind. Principal and Dean GMC Jammu Dr Mumtaz Goni attended the function as chief guest while Dr Yash Pal Sharma Deputy Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital presided over the occasion. Speaking on this occasion chief guest Dr Mumtaz Goni recalled the missionary services rendered by the Florence Nightingale which is popularly known as the “lady with the lamp’. Dr Goni said, “ the lady with lamp opened up a new chapter in the medical field i.e. nursing services. She appreciated the over all services rendered by the nurses in the state and exhorted them to follow the path and principles set by the Nightingale to help the sick and injured humans without typecasting them with their caste, religion or race. Earlier she garlanded the portrait of the Florence Nightingale and offered here homage to the noble lady for her dedication and devotion shown to the profession. It is to mention that International Nurses Day on the May 12 is dedicated to the Florence Nightingale- the lady with the lamp’ to mark her birth day all across the world and is valued in the medical profession for acknowledging the significance of para-medical staff. While Dr Yash Pal Sharma who presided over the occasion also spoke on this occasion and appreciated the Nursing Staff of the Hospitals in state that had witnessed undue work pressure during the turmoil. The function was attended by the faculty members and registrars, students and the other staff members and offered their floral tributes to the noble lady Florence-a globally acknowledged personality to give a new shape to the nursing profession.
