Srinagar, May 11 Advocate Abdul Khaliq Bhat of Sopore today joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongwith his supporters. Welcoming the new entrant in the party fold, Mehbooba Mufti said, “PDP has emerged as the lone political voice in the State representing the just concerns and aspirations of the masses.’ PDP president said that given PDP's performance, people across the State feel that it is the only party that could safeguard their political and economic interests. She said PDP's consistent policy on the crucial issues concerning the welfare of the State and its people has made it credible among the masses. She said the party is open to the like-minded people, who have a faith in its agenda and policies. Mehbooba Mufti said the greatest contribution of PDP is that it has empowered the people making them fully conscious of their rights. She said no political party or group can now take the people for a ride or exploit them for votes. She said the people are the best judges and they would give a befitting reply to the exploitative and manipulative politics in the State. Speaking on the occasion, Advocate Bhat said under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed PDP has given a new positive direction to the State politics laying the ground for peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. He said the people strongly believe that it is the only party that has a futuristic and progressive political and economic agenda for the State. He said, both in and outside the government, PDP has pursued its agenda with sincerity and commitment unlike the contemporary political parties who are only exploiting the sentiments of the masses through emotive slogans. He resolved to work for strengthening the party in the larger interest of the State and its people. Besides PDP President and Member Parliament, Mehbooba Mufti the Political Secretary, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain and other present were also present on the occasion. In his address PDP Political Secretary, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain also spoke on the occasion and spelt out the party's agenda of Self Rule and its stand on withdrawal of troops and revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).
