| 1857 martyrs remembered, rich tributes paid in a memorial seminar | | | Jammu May 11 All India Youth Federation and All India Students Federation jointly organized a memorial seminar to pay rich tributes to the freedom fighters on the 150th anniversary of the first War of independence against British Imperialism. Speakers during the proceedings of the occasion held at Press Club Jammu here today, offered their homage to the sung and the unsung martyrs of the freedom struggle that started from 11 May 1857 to be written in golden letters in Indian history. Speakers underlined the main objective of the seminar is to acquaint the new generation with the thoughts, actions and works of the freedom fighters who made us to live in a free world. In the on set of the seminar Rakesh Sharma general secretary All India Youth Federation (AIYF) Jammu in his tributes to martyrs briefed the gathering about the pre and post 1857 scenario. He said that it was the selfless and sustained efforts of the freedom fighters we are living with a feeling of independence. Dr Taran Singh of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh Foundation while paying tributes regretted that people in free India has forget the sacrifices of martyrs and acrimoniously said that one bureaucrat chaired in Jammu Municipal Corporation simply turned down our request to maintain a park in the memory of Bhagat Singh saying ‘he is from the across the Ravi let he remain there in peace.’ He said Sikh Guru Gobind Singh laid the foundation of fighting against the suppressor by raising Khalsa Panth and also added later Namdhari Guru Ram Singh Ji gave a clarion call of Kukka Movement way back in 1857 against British. He exhorted youth to follow the values of selflessness and truthfulness to give real tribute to the martyrs. Giving tributes to martyrs eminent lawyer Hari Chand Jalmeria said it is only the sacrifices of those spirited souls we are living in a free world without the shackles of slavery. He also mentioned their devotion to their cause though had forced them to face British atrocities but they continued with strong will.. He also exhorted the audience to follow the path set by these late souls as it would be true homage to them. Those who paid their tributes to martyrs on this memorial seminar included Prof D K Rampal general secretary Intellectual Forum J&K, Vimal Singh Manhas president All India Student Federation, Akaash Singh Manhas and others.
