Homage paid to ‘lady with the lamp’ on her birth anniversary

May 12- the International Nurses Day the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale an inspiring soul of nursing profession was observed here today in SMGS Hospital. Principal and Dean GMC Jammu Dr Mumtaz Goni attended the function as chief guest while Dr Yash Pal Sharma Deputy Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital presided over the occasion.
In her tributes the chief guest Dr Mumtaz Goni recalled the missionary services rendered by the Florence Nightingale which is popularly known as the “lady with the lamp’. Dr Goni exhorted the nurses to follow and stick to the ethical values of the medical profession and be the part of the initiatives to save the human race from the diseases and other ailments. Appreciating the staff, Dr Goni said despite the staff crunch the available human resources have exhibited their devotion and dedication to face the works pressure in the militancy infested state. Further she epitomizing the noble spirits of the profession said, “as the nurses render their duties with missionary zeal and help the sick and injured humans irrespective their caste, religion or race thus they are being titled as ‘sisters’ by all.
Earlier she garlanded the portrait of the Florence Nightingale and offered here homage to the noble lady for her dedication and devotion shown to the profession.
Dr Yash Pal Sharma deputy Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital Jammu in his address appreciated the Nursing Staff of the Hospitals in state that had witnessed undue work pressure during the turmoil.
Prominent those who attended this celebration included Narinder Kour Personal Officer Associated Hospitals, Pardeep Sharma Provincial president Medical Employees Association and others.
Farooq Qaiser conducted the proceedings of the function held here today in SMGS Hospital Jammu. The faculty members, registrars, nursing students from AMT School Jammu also offered their floral tributes to the noble lady Florence-a globally acknowledged personality to give a new shape to the nursing profession.
