| Voter ID scam | | Five revenue officials picked up for questioning | |
Rajouri, May 12 Counter Intelligence Wing of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) has picked up five revenue officials for questioning in voter ID scam, wherein two of the foreign militants allegedly managed to get voter ID cards from the revenue office at Thannamandi to move freely in the border district of Rajouri. Sources revealed that Counter Intelligence wing of CID, investigating the missing of 64 Election Commission cards from the Tehsildar Thannamandi's office, has picked up five officials including a retired Naib Tehsildar. The officials picked up have been identified as Muhammad Latief Wani (Retired Naib Tehsildar), Mehmood-ul-Hassan, the then Election Assistant, Thannamandi, Yasir Qureshi, the then Junior Assistant, Ghulam Nabi the then Girdawar and Muhammad Shafi Girdawar The Election Commission Identity Card had surfaced after two of these cards bearing number JK 83-095786 and JK83-095801 were recovered from Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba militants Abdul Majeed and Mohammad Jameel. During questioning, the arrested militants from Pakistan revealed that a local person had arranged for the same in alleged connivance with some revenue officials. It was also revealed that 62 voter ID cards were also missing from Tehsil Office Thannamandi. Sources further said that previous Deputy Commissioner in his report to the Election Commissioner had acknowledged that 64 voter cards were missing from the Tehsil Office Thannamandi, but had failed to pin point the guilty. Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri, Sheikh Rafiq, while confirming that five revenue officials including a retired Naib Tehsildar are being questioned by Counter Intelligence wing of CID, said that these revenue officials are being questioned by the investigating agency in the fake voter card scam
