| CAPD official lands in Vigilance net | | | Jammu, May 12: Jammu And Kashmir State Vigilance Organization today registered case against Tehsil Supply Officer (TSO) of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD) for possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A official spokesman said that Kewal Krishan Gandotra, the then TSO Jammu landed in Vigilance trap during the course of investigation of multi-crore BPL ration scam. As the investigation of a case FIR NO 14/2006- P/S VOJ was going on, it was learnt that Gandotra, has raised immovable and movable assets which are disproportionate to his known source of income. These assets include a palatial house at Channi Himmat Jammu fitted with costly electronic gadgets and furniture items and furnishings, some benami properties, besides movable assets in the shape of cars, gold ornaments, bank deposits and cash worth Rs 6.79 lakhs recovered during his house search.
Following the preliminary investigation, the Vigilance today registered a formal case against the accused at Jammu, the spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir adding, and some property both moveable and immovable has also been seized. It is pertinent to mention here that multi-crore financial scam in Antyodaya Anna Yojna and Anapurna schemes during the year 2004 – 2005 is under investigation. In this case, sources told NAK, the officials of CA&PD allegedly by manipulation the records had drawn about 95,000 qtls of rice, 13,630 qtls of wheat and 35,834 qtls of Atta under these schemes meant for weaker sections of the society against the actual requirement of 48,723 qtls of rice and 48,723 qtls of wheat. An amount of over Rs.6 crores was initially reported to have been misappropriated by the concerned officials. However, investigation conducted so far shows that the extent of loss to the state exchequer is likely to exceed Rs.6 crores mark, the spokesman added. |
