| JU’s 12th Convocation to be held today | | Record number of recipients to receive medals, degrees | | Jammu | May 12
The 'Twelfth Convocation' of University of Jammu (JU) will be held on Sunday May 13, 2007 at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium Complex, JU. Dr. Karan Singh, Member of Parliament and President, Indian Council for Cultural Relations, will be the Chief Guest during the occasion and shall deliver the convocation address. Lt. General (Retd.) S. K. Sinha, the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir and the Chancellor, JU will preside over the function while Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chief Minister, J&K and Pro ¬Chancellor, JU shall be the Guest of Honour. In this Convocation, PhD and M.Phil degrees up till May 10, 2007, would be conferred across Faculty of Science, Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Behavioural Sciences, Faculty of Management Studies, and Faculty of Social Sciences. In all, a total of 135 Ph.D Degrees and 109 M. Phil degrees shall be conferred. In addition to Ph.D and M.Phil degrees, University certificates of merit, medals and prizes will be awarded to the toppers in various disciplines at the both graduate and post graduate levels for the Years 2003, 2004 and 2005. For the Bachelor of engineering programme, medals for the Year 2002 - 03 shall also be awarded. Also, for MBBS Course, Gold Medals for the last four Academic Sessions beginning 2003 shall be awarded. In all, 55 medals shall be awarded to the toppers (in all disciplines) for the Year 2003, and, 58 Medals each in all disciplines, for the Years 2004 and 2005 respectively. The parents of the recipients have also been invited for the ceremony! function. The event is being organized with active involvement and teamwork of members of Faculty, Administrative Staff and the Students and Research Scholars of the JU, under the leadership of Prof. Amitabh Mattoo, Vice- Chancellor. It is to mention that JU is holding the convocation for the first time in its own huge capacity auditorium. In another first, JU is awarding medals to such a huge number of recipients. A special lunch will also be organized for the recipients in Hari Niwas Palace
