| AIFF team to decide fate of Santosh trophy in J&K | | | Rajesh Dutta Jammu | May 12 Jammu and Kashmir Football Association (JKFA) is trying its best to host the prestigious event of Santosh Trophy here this year and is confident that All India Football Federation (AIFF) will give the green signal to the association in the general body meet after the report submitted by the experts who will be visiting here on 17th of May, this month. The AIFF has already allotted the event to JKFA. But the formal decision is yet to come. The team of experts when visiting would look into whether the infrastructure build up by the state fulfils the laid norms and standards. The report prepared by them would be presented in the general body meet of AIFF and then the decision of allotting the event to be taken. JKFA has proposed the schedule date of 10th July for the smooth conduction of mega national event in soccer. The Association has selected four venues for the event one is in Jammu and three in Srinagar. Presently, association is busy in the spade work to complete the final arrangements at Bakshi Stadium, Polo Ground, Kashmir University and GGM Science College Jammu. The association has planned that league matches will be held at Jammu whereas knockout matches will be played at Srinagar. “We are working hard for the arrangement and is trying that 90% work should be completed before the arrival of observers team” disclosed Bashir Ahmed, Secretary JKFA. He said that the Jammu and Kashmir have great potential especially in football, which needs to be polished and such events will boost the morale of the budding players. The work of leveling and turfing is almost completed in the Srinagar and to be started very soon at GGM Science College, said secretary of the association. We learned from the past mistakes and tried our level best to hold the event this time. He also appreciated the active involvement of ministry of sports and sports council. To take the stock of infrastructure development for the mega event, Babu Singh, Minister of State for Sports and Ravinder Gupta, Secretary Sports Council personally visited the Polo ground and Bakshi Stadium and inspected the under renovation green rooms and media centre and also directed the concerned authorities to prepare the ground for the championship as soon as possible. It is pertinent to mention here that state has to host the event in September last year in Jammu but due to lack of infrastructure the event was shifted to Haryana by the Federation.
