| Azad chairs all parties meet | | | Srinagar, May 12 – Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad chaired a meeting of all political parties to discuss the issues of delimitation with regard to increase of seats by 25 percent in the Legislative Assembly, delimitation of existing constituencies, rotation of reserved constituencies, problems of 1947, 1965 and 1971 refugees as also those who came from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir in 1947. All the political parties were represented in the meeting. The issues on the agenda were deliberated upon in a very cordial atmosphere. The participants appreciated the efforts of Chief Minister for organizing this interaction to discuss some of the chronic issues concerning the people of all the regions of the state. There was unanimity in the approach to arrive at a consensus on various contentious issues. The humanitarian aspects of the problems faced by the refugees were also considered by the participants. It was decided to constitute a committee to suggest measures for addressing the civic, social and development related problems of the refugees. The committee has to give its interim recommendation within 10 days from the date it is constituted. The committee will also examine the possibilities of implementing the delimitation of the existing assembly constituencies as also rotation of reserved constituencies. The constitutional and legal aspects of the various issues also came up for discussion. Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar PDP, Hakim Mohammad Yasin PDF, Mr. Abdul Rahim Rather NC, Prof. Bhim Singh and Mr. Harshdev Singh NPP, M. Y. Tarigami and Mr. Mohammad Khalil Naik CPI (M), Mr. Ashok Khajuria and Mr. Jugal Sharma BJP, Mr. Yashpal Bhagat BSP, Mr. Ashwani Kumar JMM, Mr. A. R. Tukroo CPI besides Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Rigzin Jora, Haji Nissar Ali participated in the deliberations. The Minister for Finance, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Tariq Hamid Karra, Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Commissioner Secretary Law and Secretary Revenue also attended the meeting. The meeting ended with an optimistic note that the process of consultation on such issues shall continue.
