| SW deptt distributes sewing machines, cheques | | | KATHUA, MAY 12 Social Welfare Department organized “Rural Women Awareness Camp” at Dayalachack in tehsil Hiranagar. Programme Officer ICDS S. Gurdarshan Singh presided over the function. District Social Welfare Officer Mr. D.C. Bhatti and Tehsildar Hiranagar Mr. Som Dutt Sharma were also present on the occasion. CEO Kathua, Mr. Arun Sharma BMO Hiranagar Dr. Subash Bhagat, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Hiranagar, other functionaries of Social Welfare Department and a large number of people were present on the occasion. Mr. Singh and District Social Welfare Officer Kathua distributed sewing machines among 24 widows under lump-sum aid scheme along with cheques amounting Rs. 3500 to each. Under National Family Benefit scheme Rs. 3.50 lakhs was distributed to 35 beneficiaries @ Rs.10,000 per beneficiary. Examination fee to 147 SC/OBC students @ 440 is provided through cheques. Stipend to 25 trainees of cutting and tailoring center Falote under SCA to SCP programme amounting to Rs. 65104 was also disbursed. The women were also made aware of the cleanliness hygiene health and child care, economy in house hold, expenditure, small savings etc. because women are responsible for running the family successfully and if they are aware of all such things they can make aware to the other members of the family. He said the participants in the camp were made aware of how they can play an important role in eradication of social evils like untouchability, child marriage, dowry system, discrimination against the girl child etc.
