| Kavita Suri awarded Ph.D Degree | | | JAMMU,MAY13 Kavita Suri, senior journalist, working for The Statesman, one of the oldest English dailies of India as its Special Correspondent based in Jammu and Kashmir, today got her degree of doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences in the 12th convocation of the University of Jammu held in the General Zorawar Singh auditorium here this morning. An accredited journalist having twelve years’ professional experience in journalism, she researched on the topic "Occupational Stress, Role Conflict and Attitude of women teachers, administrators and professionals towards their profession" for her doctoral thesis under Professor Lokesh Verma, Department of Education. The degree was awarded to her by the Governor Lt. General (Retd) S.K.Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of University of Jammu. Dr Karan Singh, Member Parliament was the chief guest of the function while Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, pro-chancellor and Chief Minister of the state was the guest of honour. Conferring the degree on Kavita Suri, the Chancellor complimented her and remarked: "Congratulations to you for doing so well in your life." With this, she has become the first women journalist from the state of Jammu and Kashmir who has got a doctorate. She is already a recipient of prestigious British Chevening fellowship 2005-06 and also a WISCOMP peace fellow who researched on the Impact of terrorism on women’s education in Kashmir Valley. Last year she was awarded Charkha Sanjoy Ghose fellowship for women journalist working in areas of conflict.
