| Maya to turn UP into Uttam Pradesh | | |
Lucknow: Mayawati took oath on Sunday afternoon as the UP's new Chief Minister. And she's promised to turn Uttar Pradesh into Uttam Pradesh.
The journey started by the likes of Bhimrao Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram reaching its pinnacle. Mayawati is now the first Dalit Chief Minister of the country with a government, which is completely hers.
Little wonder that the smile on her face has become as bright as her favourite Pink suit.
She has even put to rest all doubts about managing different communities that she has brought together. Out of 49 ministers sworn in on Sunday, 13 are upper castes, five Muslims, and 31 are backwards.
Does this mean that the bahujan ideology has bent before politics?
Mayawati has come to power with the help of tilak, tarazu and talwaar and by giving equal representation to all communities in her government, she has proved that the BSP has come a long way from a party of bahujan Samaj to the party of Sarv jans.
Mayawati of 2007 is a far cry from Mayawati of the 90's. Today she talks more of development than fixing her archrival Mulayam Singh Yadav. The shrillness is gone.
"I will give reservations to poorer amongst the upper castes. My government will provide bijli, sadak, pani," said Mayawati.
"All decisions of Mulayam will be probed but there will be no witch hunting," she added.
It seems the clock is beginning to tick for Mulayam SIngh Yaadav. Mayawati has threatened to put him in jail. That’s perhaps one reason that he chose to attend the swearing in ceremony of the Dalit goddess.
