Kaluchak attack: No one can spare enough time to Kaluchak and pay tributes to martyrs, victims
5/15/2007 12:00:50 AM

Jammu, May 14
Had a small group of students of a private school here not organized a brief and simple prayers meet in the memory of martyrs and victims of May 14, 2002 Kaluchak attack, the crucial day, etched in the memories of lakhs of Army men and those who lost their loved ones would have passed off just like any other day as no official ceremony was organized by any quarters.
It was on this day, five years ago a three member fidayeen group had stormed inside Kaluchak military camp killing over three dozen people including several jawans and their family members.
The attack coming close on the heels of the another fidayeen attack on the Indian parliament on December 13, 2001, had brought armies of two neighbouring countries at the striking distance within days after the gory incident fuelling talks of eminent show of strength in the sub continent.
Yet, no one occupying high offices and enjoying cool confines today spared enough time to stand out in the blazing sun to pay floral tribute to the martyrs and remember those who helped security forces save many other lives. Contrary to this, same set of people who in routine organize grand functions at the expense of state exchequer and invite media teams did not realize the importance of the day as they too failed in their duty to organize a simple ceremony. The only saving grace and ray of hope emerged were from the lawns of Shiva Public school in New Plot area as a small group of students stood outside their class rooms and paid their tributes holding candles in their hands. On the occasion school teachers informed the students that five years ago several young children, while getting ready for their schools were killed by fidayeen in cold blood. It may be mentioned that majority of army jawans and officers living in Kaluchak had lost their kith and kin had since then left the place and remember their loved ones in private.
