| Present era in J&K is era of development: Azad | | |
Jammu, May 14 – Describing present era in Jammu and Kashmir as era of development, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said on Monday that massive infrastructure development programme put in place in the state will transform development scenario of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh for the better. Addressing a huge public meeting at Gool in Ramban district, Chief Minister said “peaceful atmosphere is a must to reap the harvest of development schemes”. He counselled the people to educate the youth, who have fallen prey to vested interests, that nothing could be achieved through bullets or by force. “We have to channelize the potential of our young generation in bringing about prosperity to the state”. Referring to the achievements registered in the state during the last four years, Chief Minister said that progress visible on ground. Linking far-off and rural villages with main roads and highways is receiving focused attention which could help in economic betterment of the area, he added. He asked the people to take fullest advantage of Roshni scheme, expand agricultural activities and utilize their enormous potential in horticulture, animal and sheep and poultry rearing. Chief Minister said that the Railway line connecting Jammu with Srinagar passing through Gool promises greater avenues of development to the area. “You can transport your fruit, vegetables, agriculture produce, etc and fetch remunerative returns”, Chief Minister said. He said that Gool area has been greatly benefitted by the creation of Ramban district as it has reduced the distance from its erstwhile Udhampur district headquarter from 205 to only 55 kms upto new administrative unit Ramban. He advised the people to register their demands about blocks, niabats, tehsils, etc with Bloeria Committee constituted for the purpose. Lauding central leadership especially Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Azad said that the liberal central funding and keen interest of central leaders to develop Jammu and Kashmir has opened new vistas of development in the state. Emphasizing the need for strengthening peace and dialogue process and Indo-Pak relations, Chief Minister fervently appealed one and all to contribute and help restore peace for all round development. Referring to the importance of scientific and technical education in today’s world, Mr. Azad advised the youth to devote their entire attention in receiving technical and scientific education. In this connection, he asked the technical education department to explore the possibilities of bringing more local and far-off areas under the ambit of ITI programmes so that the youth could be trained in various job-oriented trades. Minister for Tourism, PHE and Horticulture, Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir asked the people to take to cultivation of fruit plants in a big way as the area is suitable for developing orchards. He said government would provide all facilities to the people in this regard. He assured the people that all out efforts would be made to augment the drinking water supply and irrigation schemes in the area. Minister of State for Higher Education Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan lauded Chief Minister for bold and historic initiative to restore peace and usher in all round development. Mr. Gulzar Ahmad Wani also spoke on the occasion and District Development Commissioner Ramban besides senior officers of the district were present. On his arrival at Gool Chief Minister was accorded warm welcome by the enthusiastic crowd.
