Jammu deserves a minimum of 67 assembly seats: BJP
BJP to move the Court in case any unconstitutional decision is imposed on Jammu: Khajuria

Jammu May 15
The state Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) today has categorically emphasized upon the case of due political representation to Jammu and underlined that Jammu deserves at least 67 assembly seats in given situation as it has more population and is spread over larger area than that of Kashmir.
Advocating the case of Jammu region party’s state president Ashok Khajuria asserted that Jammu region deserves a minimum of 67 seats for Jammu and 41 for Kashmir in case 25 per cent seats are increased in Jammu and Kashmir, barring Ladakh which also needs a fair representation. ‘If two other factors number of voters and nature of terrain and accessibility are also taken into consideration, and they need to be considered as per the RPA, then Jammu deserves another 5 to 7 seats, he said, in a press conference organized at BJP office.
He also stressed BJP will oppose this decision and warns the State Government that it would even go to the court of law in case this unconstitutional decision is imposed. Referring to the political discrimination with the Jammu region, he underlined BJP wants the Government to apply 'uniform criteria’ while increasing the number of seats and delimiting afresh the assembly segments.
Giving statistics Khajuria said If the EIP goes by the Cabinet decision, then it would mean 58 seats for Kashmir, as against the existing 46 seats meaning an increase of 12 seats. As for Jammu, it would get 46 seats, as against the existing 37 seats, despite more land spread and more populace, which is unfair, and BJP will oppose it by tooth and nail.
However with words of praise to Azad to convene All Party Meet 2007, Khajuria said that BJP would want the Government to involve the Ladakh Union Territory Front (LUTF) and Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Council (KAHDC) to take up their case in regard to this issue. At the same time, BJP asked for seats for refugees from PoK and for Kashmiri Hindus. Further demanding the civil rights
For the Refugees of 1947, Ashok Khajuria hailed the chief minister Azad and said, “State Government has finally taken a cognizance of the miserable plight of these hapless refugees.” He said it would had been better for the coalition to get support from the opposition NC to grant the PoK Refugee their civil rights. ‘The BJP has all along fought for them, Khajuria said and added that it would stand by any decision that entitles the refugees from West Pakistan to all the rights, which are available to the permanent residents of the State. He also mentioned the case of the refugees of 1965 & 1971 who too have suffered a lot of miseries and asked for their rehabilitation and need to be compensated for the losses they suffered in 1947-48, 1965 and 1971.
In the end to a question he replied that BJP wants to make it loud and clear that it shall oppose each and every decision which in its eyes is unconstitutional, unjust, discriminatory, invidious and unfair.
The state senior vice president and state spokesperson and other party cadres also flanked state president BJP in this press conference.
