Jammu,May 15 Justice Nirmal Singh of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Tuesday issued non-bailable arrest warrant in the name of city hotelier, Surat Singh, after he leveled serious allegations of corruption against one of the senior lawyer, SS Nanda, while he was appearing on behalf of Jammu Municipal Corporation, during the course of proceedings in the High Court. Justice Nirmal Singh was hearing the arguments in one of the cases in the court room when all of a sudden respondent in the case Surat Singh stood from his seat and alleged that SS Nanda had demanded hefty amount to settle the case in his favour. This created commotion in the court room as the allegations leveled by a respondent triggered a silent whisper campaign. Stunned with the rare episode of its kind, several senior members of the Jammu Bar Association lead by newly elected President BS Slathia later appeared before Justice Nirmal Singh and made a submission that allegations leveled by the respondent Surat Singh against SS Nanda, a learned counsel, during the course of proceedings is contemptuous and the same have degraded the judicial institution. It was stated that all the allegations leveled against Nanda are false and frivolous and therefore proceedings may be started against the respondent Surat Singh in accordance with the law. Justice Nirmal Singh also noted that prima facie he is of the view point that respondent Surat Singh by leveling serious allegations against SS Nanda during the course of proceedings has interfered with the administration of justice and lowered the dignity of the court. Justice Singh noted in his order, since Surat Singh had already left the court premises in the first session, therefore, in the present set of circumstances, it would be most appropriate if his presence was now secured through non- bailable warrant of arrest. As per the court directions the warrant shall be executed through SSP Jammu. The next date of the court hearing has been fixed for May 17, 2007 |
