| 2 minors among 4 of family charred to death | | | Jammu, May 15 Four members of a family, including two minors, were charred to death when their house caught fire in border town of Poonch during the wee hours on Tuesday. Official sources said that family was sleeping inside their house, situated at Sukka Kathag Mohalla of Ward No 1 Poonch, when it caught fire due to short circuit. Giving details a police officer told, over phone from Poonch, that house of Balvinder Singh caught fire during the wee hours today and the flames engulfed the entire structure within minutes. The neighbourers and police after hearing the cries of the family members rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. However, the fire was so powerful that none of the family members could be rescued, he added. Fourty years old Balvinder Singh son of Neetar Singh his wife Om Kour, three years old son Pintu and five years old daughter Sonia were burnt to death in the incident. Police said that it has registered a case in this regard and started investigation. Preliminary investigation conducted so far revealed that the fire was caused due to short circuit and as the house was mostly made of wood, the entire structure caught fire. The deceased Balvinder Singh was said to be working with army as porter.
