| 'Divide Pakistan to eliminate terrorism': Jamaluddin | | | BL KAK NEW DELHI, May 15 Heard of Syed Jamaluddin? He is the mysterious France-based writer. What else? Jamaluddin has authored the controversial book titled 'Divide Pakistan to Eliminate Terrorism'. Jamaluddin is currently being discussed in parts of Pakistan, particularly Peshawar. The reason: He has written to a number of Pakistani scholars and writers to urge them to read his work "dispasionately". In an email addressed to "dear scholars and learned people", Jamaluddin drew attention to his book which was published in November 2006. As if unsure that he is being taken seriously, he sent a number of attachments with the email carrying news items, articles and reviews of his book published mostly in Pakistan and India. The attachments include a guest column by Syed Jamaluddin in the South Asian Analysis Group (SAAG) publication titled 'Pakistan's existence: A need or a burden?' A TV commercial about the book shown repeatedly on CNN was also attached to the email. Jamaluddin was unknown as an author even though he reportedly also wrote an earlier book titled, 'Pakistan Army: A Symbol of Terrorism'. Even after writing the new book he would not have attracted much attention had he not sponsored the commercial advertisement on CNN to publicise his work. According to reports fed to some newspapers outside Pakistan, Jamaluddin bought airtime on the television channel and his 15-second spot which was aired daily for more than two weeks must have cost a lot of money. These reports say that a 30-second ad at prime time on CNN could cost as much as 20,000 dollars. Apart from introducing the book, the TV commercial charged Pakistan with terrorist activities across the world.
