Approach rationees to check distribution through depots: Taj to officers
5/15/2007 11:59:08 PM

JAMMU, MAY 15
In a bid to tighten noose around the dealers , the Consumer Affairs department has decided to approach the rationees to check the records of the foodgrains distributed from a particular depot.
The concerned officers have been asked to inspect the distribution by randomly approaching 5 to 10 rationees to check whether they have received the food grains as mentioned in the dealer’s records.
The orders to this effect were issued by Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Mr Taj Mohi-u-Din at a meeting convened to review the functioning of the department in Jammu Division.
Calling for strict compliance of the orders, minister said that while 100 percent test check of records should be made from Tehsil level in Rural areas and Inspectors in Jammu City, the exercise would be followed by rechecking at District and divisional Level. He said the monthly report should be furnished to his office after passing through various levels upto director.
He said the license of dealer found failing in maintaining the records or indulging in making false entries should be cancelled on the spot. He said apart from this it should be made mandatory for the dealers to bring their record register at the time of applying for the quota for next month.
Stressing for strict adherence to his directions, Minister said that he would himself be conducting frequent inspections and warned that the concerned official would be held responsible if he would find any dealer failing in maintaining the records. He asked the officers not to confine themselves to the four walls of office and conduct frequent tours to ensure that the people get the ration in time.
Reviewing the stock and supply position district wise, new ration cards are being printed with certain new columns that would help in plugging the pilferage of foodgrains. He said the new ration card would also contain the photograph of the rationees.
Referring to the improvements made in distribution of K-Oil, the Minister said the department is receiving great appreciation on this account.
Among others present in the meeting included Director CA&PD, Assistant directors of all district of the divisions and other senior functionaries from Directorate.
