| Top priority being accorded to tourism as employment generating sector: Jugal | | | KATRA, MAY 16 Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma has said that tourism and other important sectors of employment generation and economy have been accorded top priority giving a new dimension to the entire development initiative in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaking on the occasion of inauguration of The White Orchid (Katra), an Ecotel Hotel, Mr. Sharma said that with the setting up of tourism development authority and creation of tourist circuits, tourist infrastructure and wayside facility are being created, expanded and upgraded at different tourist destination while schemes are in the pipelines to develop new picturesque spots. He said Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh have revered religious and spiritual destinations which are thronged of devotees every year and provide an ideal setting for promotion of pilgrim tourism in the state alongwith adventure tourism. Referring to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine where 7 million pilgrims from within and outside the country come to pay their obeisance every year, Mr Jugal said that strategy is being work out to attract these pilgrims to Patnitop, Surinsar, Mansar, Shiv Khori, Dera Baba Banda Bhader and other parts of the state to boost economy and generate employment for the people. He lauded the bold initiatives of Chief Minister during past 18 months to realize his vision of making J&K a peaceful and prosperous state. Member Parliament, Mr Madan Lal Sharma, speaking on the occasion enumerated the various achievements of the government. He also appreciated the hotel management for creating excellent facilities for pilgrims at Katra that would help in promotion of tourism. Vice Chairman Pahari Board, Mr Shabir Ahmed Khan, Legislators Mr Arvind Singh, Mr Yogesh Sawhney, Mr Sham Lal Verma, Mr Shahghan Dar, Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Mr Sanjeev Sharma, Additional S.P Katra, Mr Ashok Sharma, Director Tourism, Mr Ajay Khajuria, Joint Director Information, Mr S.K Sharma, CMD Kamath Hotels, Mr Vithal Kamath, President Municipal Committee Katra, senior officers and prominent citizens were also present on the occasion. Managing Director of the hotel, Mr Swarn Salathia giving details of the facilities being provided in the hotel, said that it would also have a Institute of Catering to train the youth of state and facilitate their placement in various chain of hotels in the country.
