Union Minister of State for Home, Sriprkash Jaiswal informed Rajya Sabha today that the three year old ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan was violated by Pakistani Rangers in January, 2007 by opening fire on BSF personnel to help a group of intruders to cross over to Indian side. Besides, this issue was also raised during Indo-Pakistan bi-annual meeting held on 14th to 17th February, 2007. Jaiswal informed the Members that various steps have been taken up for effective border domination and to foil such attempts. The steps taken include, round the clock surveillance of the border by patrolling during day and night, operations and ambushes, construction of fencing and flood lighting and protective bunds, up gradation of BSF intelligence set up and coordination with concerned agencies, use of night vision devices and augmentation of strength for patrolling/ambush duties. The Union Minister further informed the Members that the matter was taken up with Pakistan through diplomatic channels. However, Pakistan denied any such firing.
