| Dr. Jerath wins Bhartendu Harishchandra award | | |
Jammu | May 17 The results of the most prestigious Bhartendu Harishchandra Awards for original writing in broadcasting, telecasting and journalism for the year 2004-05 have been declared by the union minister of Information and Broadcasting. The award has been bestowed upon Dr. Ashok Jerath, a literary celebrity and noted broadcaster of this region. Dr. Jerath, a recipient of several National awards, Indira Gandhi Rajbhasha Puruskar, National Scholarship holder of Sahitya Academy has recently been honoured with the lifetime achievement by J&K Cultural Academy. Besides reputed National organizations like Himotkarsh, Himachal Pradesh, Juvenile littrateurs’ Society, Calcutta, Bal Sahitya Sansthan, Kanpur, Sanskriti Sanstha, Mathura, Punjabi Sahitya Sabha, Jalandhar, Heritage India and Panorama collectively awarded him for this contribution in regional culture and scores of regional literary and cultural organizations honoured him from time to time for his erudite contribution in literature and regional culture. He has been declared ‘man of the year’ twice by American Bibliographic Society as a prolific water, author of 39 books, an acclaimed art historian and critic. He has been bestowed upon two projects on Himalayan Studies by integrated Himalayan Study Centre which published his work on Heritage of Shimla and around and Dr. Jerath who retired as Director (NFAG) from AIR and at present is running an institute of Creative writing, Mass Communication and Himalayan Studies at Dharamshala affiliated with Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan and run under the aegis of ALFA.
