| Sikh burns effigy of Dera head | | |
R.S. Pura | May 18—Sikh Sangat of the town comprising a large number of people of the community took out a procession against the alleged sacrilege act and blasphemy committed by Mahant of Dera Sacha Sauda.
As per press release, protestors were demanding arrest of Baba Gurmit Ram Rahim and an enquiry through CBI into the wrongdoings of the religious head.
Addressing the protestors, various sikh leaders, which included S. Makhan Singh, Harjeet Singh Kartar, Capt (Retd.) Hazara Singh, Paramjit Singh Panima, Advocate Amrik Singh, Bibi Harbans Kour, Jagjit Singh said the sin committed by Baba Gurmit will not be tolerated, as he has played with religious sentiment of the Sikhs.
They urged upon both Punjab and central governments to take immediate action against those, who have hurt the sentiments of the community.
As a protest the demonstrators burnt the effigy of the Baba in the main bazaar of the town.
