| ‘ASSEMBLY POLLS TO BE HELD ON SCHEDULE” | | NO DIFFERENCES BETWEEN ME AND Father: Omar | |

The National Conference leadership has altered its perception on the possibility of early Assembly election and now predicts poll on the schedule time, possibly during the middle of next year.
In an informal chat with newsmen here today President of the National Conference, Omar Abdullah, said “given the current circumstances the Assembly poll will be held on the scheduled time, middle of next year.” Hardly a few months ago both Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah has stated that since the coalition Government would fall under its own weight the state may go in for early election any time. However,Mr Omar Abdullah did not see now any reason for an early election.
The young Abdullah today also clarified his party’s stand on the involvement of separatists and militant groups in a separate dialogue by the centre.He said that “we have never suggested to the Government of India to hold separate parleys with the separatists, including leaders of United Jehad Council.”That is not my idea and neither i can claim it to be mine as it was already in the public domain. He, however, added that his party will play supportive role if the Government of India had any plan of holding a dialogue separately with separatists.” On the issue of unilateral ceasefire and involving militant leadership in the dialogue process, Omar said similar steps can be taken again. He said in order to widen the scope of dialogue process not just Syed Salah-ud-Din but the other Kashmiri leaders that forms part of the UJC should also be included in the dialogue process.
"No one should have any reservations. It will not be some thing being done for the first time as such an exercise had been undertaken in the past during NDA regime, he added.
Omar also utilised the opportunity to make it clear that there is no dual command in the party heirarchy."There are no differences between me and the party patron DrFarooq Abdullah". He said in National conference there is only one party president and he has a team of individuals adding that Dr Farooq Abdullah is one of the team members on which he rely the most. In the coming elections we will go the masses as a united force and capitalise on the leadership qualities of party patron, his charisma and guidance.
On the question of choice of assembly seat for DrAbdullah and himself, Omar told reporters that no decision in this reagrd has been taken as yet."Let elections come and then on the basis of the ground situation we will take the final decision".Commenting on the remarks made by PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed by openly naming Abdullahs in his public meetings, Omar said the fact that Mufti himslef has started pin pricking and that too by naming us publicily proves that we are on right track and they are are off track.
On congress bashing, Omar said earlier i was not naming any party but mediamen thought that i am being soft towards congress." It is not the case he said adding when we are opposing the state government we are actually opposing the congress in Jammu and its ally i.e PDP in Kashmir for the simple reason that congress has abslutley no ground in Kashmir and the PDP in Jammu.On the issue of self-rule Omar said he will not comment on the subject untill he sees any document. i donot think there is any need to react to mediareports suggesting contours of PDP's self-rule document,omar clarified.
