Flood situation in Ladakh stabilising, rescue work on
8/8/2006 7:39:30 PM

Jammu, Aug 8: The flood situation in Ladakh triggered by sudden heavy rains appeared to be stabilising as the Army stepped up rescue and relief efforts today with the death toll rising to 17.
More than 950 people had been shifted to safer areas and some 2,500 of the affected had been provided with food, Defence officials said here.

They said the troops had been scouting the flood-hit areas of Leh and Kargil districts of the frontier region for three days and the "situation now is slowly stabilising".

More than 120 big tents housing the flood-hit were pitched at five different places, they said.
