| For 1947, West Pakistan refugees the dawn is till eluding-sweet lollipops tastes bitter | | SOS International to address press meet at Srinagar to clear doubts about refugee status in state. | |
Sanjay Khajuria Jammu May 18 Once again only shattered dreams and dejection were served to the Refugees of West Pakistan recent political development when agony and miseries of refugees failed to move the heart of the human rights proponents that shed tear for very human right violation but stressed amnesty for militants and their families instead of these affected people. For how long we will be victimized, asked briefly Chaman Gupta hailing from a West Pakistan refugee and with sheer hatredness said, “ for them we don’t exist as we are not their vote bank.’ He said majority of the community is in trading line/private sector only due to the denial of the state subject that is mandatory for the government jobs. ‘We are even deprived of the fundamental franchise of voting in state assembly polls, he lamented. ‘We are moving from one maze to another and illusions in the form of political assurances have not stopped to distract our mission for the last over five decades, he added. Since the announcement of the taking up their issue of granting them a resident status in much hyped All Party Meet, the refugees of all generation including the Gen –X anchored their hopes on this scheduled Meet at Srinagar on May 12. All hopes were shattered as the chairs were visibly divided on the issues pertaining to the Refugees. “They need to rise above the vote politics it’s a humane problem and need to be see through Human tint instead of vote politics but they simply clipped the wings of aspiration of refugees soaring high by denying it outrightly, another one Dr Gurmeet Singh stated in a press statement. Talking to The Early Times, Rajiv Chuni chairman SOS International Org. for PoK Refugees, rued during a meeting prior to All Party Meet at Srinagar on May 12, we were assured about constitution of an All Party Committee (APC) to preview our issues and will then submit its report within 10 days. “Over a week has passed yet the government failed to announce such a committee making PoK Refugees to believe that once again they were taken for a joy ride for few moments, he lamented. He also expressed concerns over the misconceptions over the number of the PoK refugees, which in return has kicked off apprehensions and speculations in valley that resolving PoK Refugee issues would tilt the balance towards Jammu region. “To wipe out this misconception we will go to Srinagar in the next week and address a press conference to remove this misconception that there were over 20 lakh refugees in Jammu, he said. In an attempt to clarify misconceptions he said, there are only 70 thousand West Pakistan Refugees while 12 lakh Refugees in Jammu are PoK refugees who have state subjects and are bonafide citizens of the state and they need not to be clubbed with those displaced from West Pakistan whose issues need some constitutional amendments. Chuni further urged the political parties that the refugees are human beings and their issues need to be dealt with human perspective and approach instead of weighing them in the vote politics which way the balance will tilt.
