Srinagar, May 18 – To tackle drinking water problems in Shangus constituency on permanent basis, government has sanctioned seven new water supply schemes costing Rs 7.62 crore under Accelerated Water Reforms Supply Programme (AWRSP). All these schemes would be taken up for execution during current fiscal. This was stated by Minister of State for Health and Power Peer Mohammad Hussain while addressing a public meeting at Sheikhpora in Shangus constituency today. In addition, for Sheikhpora village and its adjoining hamlets, the Minister said that Rs 45 lakh Sheikhpora water supply scheme is also being taken up in phase-II for augmenting potable water supply in the area under Bharat Nirman Progamme. Conceding various demands of locals at Sheikhpora, Peer Hussain announced construction of link road from main road to Her-Sheikhpora under NABARD, up gradation of primary school to middle standard and setting up of health sub-centre at Gujjar basti. He also announced release of Rs one lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for construction of protection bandh at Pati-Sheikhpora. The Minister said that all the tribal hamlets of Sheikhpora village would be electrified shortly, adding entire district Anantnag has been brought under RGGVY on which Rs 24 crore are being spent. The Minister also visited residence of late Abdul Gani Wani of Mantipora and shared grief with the bereaved family. The deceased was killed in a bear attack a couple of days back. He announced Rs one lakh as ex-gratia in favour of next of kin of the deceased and release of Rs one lakh for construction of Mantipora-Hergund link road out of his CDF. Later, the Minister made surprise inspection of District Tuberculosis Hospital Anantnag and placed six officials including a pharmacist and senior assistant under suspension for unauthorized absence.
