| DB drops contempt proceedings, orders release of Contemnor | | |
JAMMU, MAY 18 A Special Division Bench comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice YP Nargotra of Jammu & Kashmir High Court, Jammu wing, constituted for hearing of contempt petition against a local businessman Surat Singh, who was arrested by the police as per the direction of the High Court, dropped contempt proceedings and ordered for release of contemnor. . Division Bench, after hearing M/S BS Salathia, DC Raina Sr. Adv with Mr. AK Sawhney Advocate appearing for the BAR and Advocate Navneet Dubey appearing for the respondent observed, that vide detailed order the contempt proceedings stand dropped. Pursuant to the order dated May 15, 2007 contemnor, Surat Singh was taken into custody and has been produced by the police. He shall now be released forthwith, if not required in any other case, the DB ordered. It is worthwhile to mention here that contemnor Surat Singh leveled serious allegations against a Senior Lawyer during the proceedings of a case of which the Bar Association took a serious note and Court issued non-bailable warrants against the contemnor who was arrested by the police yesterday. The single Bench referred to the matter to the Division Bench with the direction that the contemnor be kept in judicial lock-up. Today, a special DB was constituted for the hearing the contempt proceeding and DB after hearing both the sides dropped contempt proceedings and ordered for the release of contemnor.
