| Under trial attacks counsel, thrashed by advocates | | SHO Janipur injured in melee, BAJ suspends work | | Jammu | May 19 A high voltage drama was witnessed in the Court complex in which an advocate, under trial and SHO Janipur was injured this afternoon. Meanwhile, Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) today decided to suspend the remaining work in protest against inadequate security in the Court complex to protect the advocates, litigants and the presiding officers of the Court. According to reports, an under trial accused namely Shafiq-ul-Rehman in NDPS Act attacked his counsel Mohd Aslam Bhat, who appeared on his behalf as the Court had not granted bail in his favour. As the accused was hand-cuff, he attacked his counsel with chain. On this advocates assembled on the spot and severely thrashed the under trial. On the receipt of information, a police party led by SHO Zahid Wani rushed to the spot and tried to save Rehman from the wrath of the advocates. In the melee, he also received critical injuries on his private organs. Later, a reinforcement rushed to the spot and shifted both the injured SHO and under trial to the GMC where the condition of both the injured was stated to be stable. Meanwhile, BAJ today decided to suspend the remaining work in protest against inadequate security in the Court complex to protect the advocates, litigants and the presiding officers of the Court. Advocates assembled on spot and also raised slogans while police has reported to have arrested some persons allegedly into the attack on SHO.
