Jammu,May 19 The meeting of the Unified Command will be held in Srinagar on Monday to discuss the latest security scenario in the state.Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, would chair the meeting which is scheduled to be attended by senior functionaries of the Army,Police Paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies and those from the Home Department besides the Chief secretary. Informed sources said that the meeting will review security arrangements that were required for ensuring incident free stay of tourists and the pilgrims to the Amarnath cave shrine. The annual Amarnath pilgrimage is scheduled to begin from June 30.Already some groups of pilgrims have made it to the cave shrine for offering prayers. However,on receipt of the report the Shrine Board, which looks after the management of the pilgrimage, has directed the security agencies not to allow any pilgrim to trek to the cave from Baltal area. Already the tourist season has started on a grim note. The tourist traffic is below the expectations of the hoteliers and houseboat owners. In the unified command meeting the situation will be reviewed so that the security grid was further strengthened so that rebel attacks on tourists, which had shattered the tourist traffic to the valley last year, were not allowed at any cost. The state Government plans to raise the issue of withdrawal of troops from within the valley,as demanded by the PDP leadership. The purpose of raising this issue was to seek an opinion from all the officers from the Army, the police, the paramilitary forces and the intelliegce agencies on the issue.Their opinion will be the deciding factor for accepting or rejecting the demand of Mufti Mohd.Sayeed. Official sources said that in the meeting the state Government will seek suggestions from the senior functionaries of the Army and the paramilitary forces on the decision of vacating orchards and houses which were under the occupation of security forces for the last more than 15 years |
