Jammu May 19 Following the windy sprinkle the Jammu reeled under scorching heat but without water and power supply as the squall that hit the state has played havoc by uprooting many electric poles and tress. The failures of power supply not only let the city under blackout but made people to suffer the itchy sunny day. The official sources on authorized anonymity informed that many power supply poles have been uprooted at various places with supply wires also facing the havoc of the storm. ‘At present the approximate losses to PDD department have been estimated up to Rs 60 lakh and it will take time to the restore the power supply, said officials this morning. However in the late afternoon the hectic efforts from the all ranks and files of the PDD and its concerned agencies in power sector managed to restore the power supply partially in the city while many locations of the Jammu city remained without power supply. It is to mention that after witnessing scorching sunny day the valley witnessed a squall with high speed winds at about 7.00 pm on Friday that put the calm waters of the world famous Dal Lake to show their rage. The valley was enveloped with darkness and made the police and other agencies to go for emergency. The police and other agencies rescued about 100 tourists from the Dal Lake and other areas. While Grid Station failure and snapping of power supply wires put the whole valley in darkness. However it took almost five-six hours for this squall to reach to winter capital as Jammu region at about 12.15 faced a sheer blackout as the high speed winds showed their rage making night riders to stop where ever they were. Uprooting of Poles and snapping of poles cut off the power supply leading the city to wore a pal of darkness. The opening of the new dawn made people and passers by to see the poles and roadside trees lying on road making traffic blockades all along the highway which also made the life in urban Jammu to come to standstill till these obstacles were cleared by the concerned government agencies.
