| Charak opens Chandanwari road for traffic | | | Srinagar, May 19 Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak today visited the damaged site of Chandanwari road at Pahalgam this morning and after monitoring he remained stationed there till road was restored. The Minister then opened it for traffic. The work on damaged portion of road was taken in hand sometime back at a cost of over Rs. 74 lakh on war-footing. The work was completed today. About 1720 feet road stretch was totally washed away during incessant rains in March this year. Saying that the road has a great religious and tourist importance Mr. Charak directed the engineers to accelerate the work on widening of the road from Pahalgam to Chandanwari and also upgrade it further. During his visit to Chandanwari he also interacted with the yatries who hailed the steps taken by the state government for opening of this road. The Minister also inspects various road sites from Srinagar to Pahalgam and directs the concerned agencies to repair the damaged roads immediately. He instructed the engineers to personally monitor the work and said that stern action would be taken against the erring engineers and contractors involved in the malpractices would be blacklisted. The Minister inspected the construction work of link road from Grend to Hard Kichloo being constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.14 crore under PMGSY at Ashmuqam. He instructed the executing agency to complete the road within the prescribed time. Mr. Charak also visited Wood Seasoning Plant set up at a cost of Rs. 7 crore at Seather Bijbehara. During the inspection Minister was informed about the various aspects of the project. The Minister was accompanied by Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir Mr. Nazir Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer Pahalgam Development Authority besides Superintendent Engineer and Executive Engineer of South Kashmir.
