| Education Department employee in Vigilance net | | | JAMMU MAY-19 The Vigilance Organization today conducted a search at Tangwani Tukroo in the residential premises of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, working as Senior Assistant in the office of Deputy Chief Education Officer, Shopian, following registration of Case FIR No. 33/2007 u/s 5(1) (e) r/w 5(2) J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006 against him. A simultaneous search was also conducted in the residential premises of his brother-in-law Nazir Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Muhammad Bhat R/o Delipora, Pulwama. During the searches some incriminating documents pertaining to the movable/immovable assets acquired by the accused Bashir Ahmad Sofi were recovered and seized. The case owes its origin to a complaint received by the Vigilance Organization regarding which a verification was conducted to enquire into the allegations of possession of disproportionate assets to the known sources of Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Sr. Assistant, in the course of which it was revealed that the accused during his service carrier, by indulging in corrupt practices, has raised assets including a two storeyed concrete residential house at Tangwani, Tukroo, a single storey house with five shops on one kanal of land purchased by him on the main Pulwama-Shopian road, five kanals of land at Tukroo and 3.6 kanals of paddy land at Pulwama on Murran road. The suspect is in possession of one Tata Sumo and one Tata 608 Bus. He is believed to be in possession of huge bank deposits, LIC policies etc. The verification conducted further revealed that the expenditure incurred by the suspect in acquiring these assets is much more and are as such apparently disproportionate to his known sources of income which constitutes offence punishable under the relevant provision of J&K Prevention of Corruption Act, 2006, a Vigilance report said . The investigation of the case is in progress, the report added.
