CEC reviews arrangements for Sindhu Darshan Festival

To chalk out the program for the celebration of the ensuing Singhay Khababs- Sindhu Darshan Festival-2007, Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Council, Tsering Dorje convened a meeting here today. The meeting among others was attended by Executive Councilor Tourism Tsewang Rigzin, Deputy Commissioner M K Dwivedi, Deputy Director Tourism Urgan Lundup, district officers, President Gonpa Association, President Tour and Travels and President Taxi Association.
Deputy Commissioner informed the meeting that several committees have been framed for making the arrangements and responsibilities have already been assigned to them.
To give wider publicity about holding of Sindhu Festival, the meeting decided to conduct a press conference at New Delhi on May 30 so that the people in large number are attracted to the Festival. It was also decided that cultural activities of Ladakh would be given due prominence during the Festival.
Addressing the meeting the CEC urged upon all the concerned including NGOs, trade and travel organizations to exhibit an added splendor to make the festival as grant success. He said Ladakh has a rich culture and bestowed with a sacred river Singhey Khababs (Sindhu) and has produced heroes like Singhey (Lion)who has not only promoted the Ladakhi culture here but in the surrounding areas as well. He said the festival would go a long way to promote and preserve the rich culture and hoped that large number of tourists both within and outside the country would witness the festival and cherish the scenic beauty of the region popularly known as ‘Moon Land’
Deputy Director Tourism, who is the nodal officer of the festival, said that polo matches, double humped camel safari, cultural programs depicting rich ethos of Ladakh and several other states would be the highlights of the Festival. He said several cultural troupes from different states would also be participating in the Festival. Prominent among these would be Odissi dancers and some foreign artists headed by Tom Alter, he added.
