| Students’ educational tour culminates | | | Jammu, May 10 With a view to create awareness and provide exposure to the school children of remote areas, the fortnight long Educational Tour organized by the Army under the aegis of Rising Star Corps, as part of ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ concluded last evening. The group comprised 36 students (18 girls and 18 boys) and 4 teachers hailing from remote areas of Kathua and Samba region of Jammu and Kashmir. This tour provided an opportunity to students and teachers of these remote areas to know rich cultural heritage and industrial might of the country. Earlier, the group was flagged off on May 5 by GOC Rising Star. They had interaction with Gurj Div from Mauna Military Canto (Pathankot).The tour culminated with a closing ceremony today at Mamun Military Station (Pathankot). Speaking on the occasion to the large gathering of Army and civil dignitaries, GOC Rising Star Corps said that the tour was a complete success. The response from children was overwhelming and they were enriched by the visit to various places and meetings with Civil and Military dignitaries. GOC also emphasized that this educational tour will be harbinger of peace and harmony amongst local populace and educate the youngsters to choose the correct path and contribute towards development, peace and prosperity of the country. During the closing ceremony children presented cultural program. The children during their educational tour got an opportunity to visit Jallianwala Bagh, OCM Factory, Wagah Border, Golden Temple at Amritsar, Durgah Sharief at Ajmer, Pushkar, Bharatpur, Hawa Mahal and Ajmer Fort at Jaipur, Taj Mahal and Shoe Factory at Agra, Science Museum, National Museum, Akshardham and Red Fort at Delhi. Children also enjoyed a ride in Metro Train at Delhi, besides visiting Indian Military Academy and Rashtriya Indian Military College in Dehradun. In the last leg of the tour children visited Chandigarh and saw Rock Garden, Pinjore Garden PGI and Sukhna Lake and spent a day in the beautiful Chhatbir Zoo. The highlight of the tour was meeting with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, President of India and GOC-in-C, Western Command, a Defence release said.
