| 200 bags of FCI rice seized in Nehru Market raid | | Bags taken out of FCI godown with connivance of FCI employees | |
Jammu | May 20 About 200 bags of FCI Rice weighing 50 Kilograms each were seized by Police during a raid conducted at a godown in Ware House, Nehru Market this afternoon. Two persons were arrested and a truck was also seized in the raid while the owner of the godown and the prime accused were still absconding. Investigations revealed that said bags were taken out by the accused from FCI godown with the connivance of some FCI employees. Meanwhile, Police has registered a case under section 420/109/409 RPC, 3/7 Essential Commodities Act in this regard against the accused. According to reports, Gandhi Nagar Police on specific information that a truck bearing registration no JK02-5737 is unloading FCI rice at the Godown of one Vijay Kumar, son of Nag Chand at Nehru Market carried out a raid. During the raid, 200 FCI Rice bags were seized besides the seizure of the truck and its driver. During the course of interrogation it was established that a person Vikas Gupta, owner of Tej Bhawan Rice Mill located at Mishriwalla conspired with FCI employees and took out 200 Rice bags of 50 Kilograms and shifted to his mill at Mishriwalla and put FCI Rice in other bags with intention to change FCI mark on bags. Accordingly, he changed the bags and unloaded these bags at the godown of said Vijay Kumar at Nehru Market. Meanwhile, Police has also seized 80 empty FCI marked bags from the mill of Vikas Gupta at Mishriwalla. The driver of the said truck namely Vijay Kumar, son of Shiv Kumar of Ambgarota and manager of the mill namely Tara Chand, son of Faqir Chand were also arrested by Police. But, the owner of godown and the owner of mill were absconding.
