Srinagar, May 21 The Army authorities informed the state Government that they were prepared to vacate orchards and other agricultural lands, occupied by troops,if suitable alternate accommodation was provided to them. The state Government informed the Army functionaries that already sites for accommodating the troops had been idedntified. However, the Army authorities wanted suitable infrastructure to be built before the troops were shifted to those places because forces should not be made vulnerable to militant attacks if reallocated without adequate security cover. The meeting also discussed the problem of infiltration. While the state intelligence officials informed the meeting that as compared to February-March 2007 the level of ingress during the last 50 days had increased. The Army authorities said that since the repair work of the barbed wire fence, damaged as a result of heavy snow, was in progress it had facilitated infiltrators to sneak from across the Kupwara sector but the level of ingress was not alarming. They told the meeting that ther work was expected to be completed shortly and it would result in drop in the level of infiltration. While appreciating the role of the security forces Mr Azad suggested to them to maintain utmost vigil not only on the border /line of control but within the valley because of the ensuing annual Amarnath pilgrimage. He wanted heads of various security agencies to finalise a foolproof arrangements so that the pilgrim traffic remained an incident free affair. The state authorities expressed satisfaction over the marked drop in the incidents of human rights violations. They, however, favoured zero tolerance against such violations. The Chief Minister wanted the security forces to deal firmly with militants without causing any inconvenience to civilians.
