| NC accuses coalition of jeopardizing education system | | Stop shedding crocodile tears: Omar to Mehbooba | | Rajouri, May 21 Accusing coalition government of jeopardizing career of youth across the state by its mis-directed education policy, President National Conference and Member Parliament Mr. Omar Abdullah today said that those shedding crocodile tears for lack of proper infrastructure in educational institution should have come forward when their party leaders and alliance partners were busy in laying foundation stones in an attempt to gain publicity and public applause. Addressing public meetings in Doongi and Dangri areas of Rajouri districts, here today, the National Conference president said that standard of education has drastically declined in Jammu and Kashmir for the last four years. "They upgraded schools in a misplaced move to get public applause with no funds in hand"; Mr Omar said adding "what would be the fate of students who are studying HSS being run in two rooms without any teaching staff". He said that desire for short term political gains and publicity saw the collation leader laying foundation stones of colleges and upgrading schools without any planning and policy. "The up-gradation of high schools to higher secondary schools without ensuring adequate infrastructure has resulted in a sub-standard education being imparted and careers being jeopardized", Omar added. "While the former chief minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed laid foundation stone of more than 20 colleges without even bothering to identify the sites for these colleges his successor Ghulam Nabi Azad upgraded several primary and middle schools without bothering about the infrastructure required for the purpose", he said. "The desire for short term political gains and publicity made them to announce up-gradation and opening of new school one after the other, unmindful of the fact that how would the requirements of these institutions be met" he said adding "today sub standard education is being imparted and careers of students being jeopardized in absence of qualified staff and infrastructure",. This, he said, has led to a chaos like situation at the ground level confusing both the teaching community and the students. Omar said, "I was surprised how PDP president is today shedding crocodile tears for lack of proper infrastructure when her own political party was responsible for the present mess". "Where was she when her father was busy in laying foundation stones of one after the other institution for publicity and short term political gains without caring about the required funds and teaching staff", he asked. "The real responsibility lies with her father and party patron whose lust for publicity saw him laying foundation stones for more than twenty colleges where in many cases even the land was not acquired for construction". Regretting the poor plight educational system, he said the day is not far away when the entire education system in the state would come falling like house of cards leaving the student community in a lurch. What would be the future of those students who would pass out from these Institutions from science or other practical based streams?, NC president questioned and added would these students be able to compete for professional courses like MBBS, MBA, Engineering and MCA at national level. Other who spoke on the occasion included, Provincial president Ajay Sadhotra, , MLAs Mohammad Aslam, Rashpal Singh, former member parliament Choudhary Talib Hussain, President women's wing Bimla Luthera, MLC Devender Singh Rana, Bashir Ahmed Wani, Choudhary Liyaqat Ali, Choudhary Shafi, Ashraf Mirza and Bashir Ahmed Wani.
