| Tributes paid to Rajiv Gandhi | | | Jammu | May 21 Rich tributes were paid to late Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi on his 16th death anniversary here today. To observe the day a number of functions were organized where several Congress leaders appraised the gathering the role played by late leader in making country self reliant and promotion of science and technology in India. While, paying tributes to the late leader, the Health and Medical Education Minister Mangat Ram Sharma at his official residence said he was a dynamic youth leader of the country and laid his life for the integration of the country. He said, ‘We should not forget his sacrifices,’ but work for the over all development of the country. The other leaders how also paid tributes to late leader at the venue were president J&K Trade Union Congress, S R Sharma, Madan lal Sharma, Jitinder Sharma, Kuldeep, Rajinder Razdan, Bansi Lal, Chand ji etc. A similar function was held at the office of Youth Congress Committee, were several youth leaders re-called the services of Rajiv Gandhi. On the occasion fresh fruits were distributed by the youth leaders at Old Age Home, Amphalla. Pawan Raina, Sanjay Sawhney, Kamal Anand, Imran Khan Choudhary, Thomas Khokhar all youth leaders also paid rich tributes to late leader. Foundation for peace and social Justice members in a meeting paid tributes to Rajiv Gandhi. Speaking on the occasion, MLC Ashok Sharma sought incorporating of 73 and 74 amendments of Indian Constitution in Jammu & Kashmir to strengthen Panchayati Raj system in the state. Sharma said the Peace & Social Justice organisation is going to organize a workshop and youth meets in urban and rural areas for promotion of scientific knowledge beside spreading computer literacy among the youth. On the occasion two minute silence was observed in memory of the departed soul. Among others who also paid tribute were K.L. Koul, Shashi Sharma, Kailash Nath and Sanjay.
