For the six backdoor appointees rest 19 persons lost jobs due to the quashing of the final list when an inquiry committee initiated by the state government confirmed irregularities in appointments in Social Welfare Department last year, sources said. Irony of the matter is that the officers and members of selection committee go Scot-free who played truant with meritorious candidates.
Sources said that six persons were accommodated as the supervisors in Social Welfare Department including a close kin of an MLA during the selection of the supervisors in said department. “When some of the aggrieved pointed out that about six persons who didn’t face the interview had been included in the shortlisting of candidates, the state government ordered to initiate inquiry in this context, sources said. Narrating his problems one of the aggrieved said that they have been clipped of their wings for their no fault. ‘If some whose names had been pin pointed as the backdoor appointees should have been shunted out why the whole list has been put in abeyance, he asked. Recalling past he said if the promoters of favouritism has accommodated a female candidate with 49.5% merit against the 56 % of merit what is our fault she should have been shunted out of the list not all the rest meritorious candidates.
For inept it is to mention that last year government in response to the allegations lobbed by some candidates whose names were in the 84 shortlisted candidates for the post Supervisors in Social Welfare Department ordered an inquiry to probe the matter. Even the minister concerned has been reportedly had admitted tempering of final list and in an interaction with media person said that ‘one senior officer in the selection committee tempered the list by replacing six meritorious candidates with six favourites who even had not appeared for the interview and then forwarded the tempered list to GAD for issuing the appointment orders.’ Social welfare minister was so critical of this case in his department added that he had asked the government to go ahead with the finalist but stressed categorically by scrapping the names of the favourites and blue-eyed persons.
When contacted O P Kalanderia Deputy Commissioner Udhampur told Early Times that following the orders an inquiry committee was initiated to probe the alleged tempering of selection list of supervisors in Social welfare Department issued on 29 July 2006. “The inquiry committee found some irregularities and has submitted its reports and the list has been quashed after due confirmations, he said. He added that fresh advertisements were published and fresh applications were also invited for the interviews the process almost has completed and the announcement of final list is awaited.
Is quashing of merit list for few guilty is justified, does it justify the right to employment of those who were meritorious and deserving and finally why the government let the guilty from selection committee to go scot-free are the questions in the sane minds and looking answer to a million dollar question will the deserving candidates get justice this time.
