| LAWASIA qualifiers getting rough deal from JU authorities | | Team being denied travel expenses to attend final competition in Hong Kong | | Jammu, May 20 Notwithstanding its tall claims about encouraging students to participate in international events, Jammu University management is adamant to splash water on the aspirations of qualifiers of LAWASIA competition by denying them travel expenses for participating in the Final Moot – Court Competition being held in Hong Kong. Three promising Law School students of Jammu University who were declared as runners up at the International Moot Court competition in national rounds held in Patiala Law University got the opportunity to represent India after the winner team from Bangalore Law School withdrew from the competition for unknown reasons. While the LAWASIA management has invited the team from JU after the withdrawal of Bangalore Law School to represent India in the competition, the authorities in the University have refused to bear even travel expenses of the team. Even though the accommodation and other expenses for the team are to be borne by the LAWASIA, the JU authorities are forcing the students to drop the idea of participating in the prestigious competition. The LAWASIA in its invitation has requested the university to cover the 'flight and Travel expenses' while taking the responsibility for arranging accommodation during their four day stay at Hong Kong to itself It has been reliably learnt that the University authorities are deliberately trying to sabotage the visit of the team to avoid similar demands from the talented students who want to compete at national and International level. The Law school team, according the sources is being asked to arrange private sponsors or leave the idea of participating in the competition. "It is highly regretful that while the staff including Vice- Chancellor are going abroad every now and than on the university expenses, the team which has to represent the country are being forced to give up a golden opportunity for want of a paltry sum" sources told News Agency of Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention here that the University authorities reportedly paid huge sums to singers from India and Pakistan invited to perform during seven day extravaganza to celebrate inauguration of the Gen. Zorawar Singh Auditorium.
