| Maj Gen Malik dedicates solar lighting project to Panjtut villagers | | | Jammu May 22- As a part of its continued endeavors to improve the well being of the local populace and take Jammu and Kashmir State further on progressive and peaceful path, the Army has once again proved as a nation builder by further developing the infrastructure in the militant ravaged state. The Operation Sadbhavana launched by the Army in the state has proved a boon for the people living in border and far flung areas. Continuing its efforts to provide solace to the rural populace, Maj Gen AK Malik GOC Crossed Swords Division today dedicated the state-of-the-art lighting scheme to the inhabitants of the border village Panjtut near Pallanwalla. The project, comprising independent solar powered street lighting systems with best alternative energy technologies has been installed on the central village road which will greatly enhance the security, safety and living standard of the village populace. The innovative use of solar energy will reduce dependence on conventional electricity. Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the project, Maj General Malik said that the Army was making all possible efforts to improve the living conditions of the people in border and remote areas and expressed gratitude to the locals for their support and cooperation to the Army both during peace and war. He said following ceasefire on borders in 2003, the Army has been instrumental in rapidly improving the infrastructure in remote villages adding that the projects undertaken over the past three years include modernization of the middle school, construction of additional accommodation for girls school and construction of library room for higher secondary school in the area, besides setting of a state- of- the- art computer lab. Lal Chand Sarpanch of village Panjtut, who also spoke on the occasion, lauded the efforts of the Army towards upliftment of living standards of the locals.
